Stormy: With a Foster to Adopt Applicant
Hi there — I just learned that I have heartworms, but don’t worry, GRRA is already stepping in to make sure I get the treatment I need. They’ll cover all of the medical costs to help me heal and get this pesky parasite out of my system.
I'm looking for a loving applicant to care for me while I undergo my heartworm treatment.
If you’re not able to adopt, please consider donating to GRRA. Your support helps pups like me get lifesaving care and gives other dogs a chance at a healthy, happy future.
Thank you for believing in dogs like me! 🐾💛

Stormy’s story is nothing short of heartbreaking.
For months, she wandered a neighborhood, surviving off scraps and trash—yet no one knew the secret she was protecting. Tucked away in an abandoned house, Stormy was caring for her six newborn puppies. She stayed with them all day, then ventured out at night in search of food, doing whatever it took to keep her babies alive.
Nearly two months later, all of Stormy’s puppies were adopted. Stormy, however, was left behind.
The shelter environment was overwhelming for her. She shut down completely—frightened and unsure—so much so that staff had to carry her outside. This gentle mama had given everything she had, and now she didn’t know what came next.
That’s when GRRA stepped in to help this sweet girl.
Stormy is heartworm positive and has a deformity in her right hind leg. While it doesn’t seem to bother her day to day, the leg is chronically infected, and her veterinarian believes she will do best with it surgically removed.
Stormy will also be undergoing heartworm treatment, which means she’ll need a calm, quiet home for several months while she heals. She’s hoping to find someone who is home more often and can help keep her activity level low so her heart rate stays steady during recovery. During this time, she won’t be able to manage many stairs—slow and steady is truly the name of the game for this sweet girl.
Once she’s completed her treatment and healed from surgery, Stormy is expected to do wonderfully as a tripod and go on to live a full, happy, and active life. 💛
