Meet Kai – 2-Year-Old Golden Retriever Seeking an Active, Committed Home

My name is Kai, and I am a 2-year-old Golden Retriever currently looking for my dedicated forever family.

When I first came to GRRA, I had a bit of an unruly streak and needed help building a solid foundation. I’ve spent the past few weeks working hard in a board-and-train program with Rucker Dog Training, where I’ve focused on basic obedience and structure.

I’m proud to say I’ve completed my initial training and am ready to transition into a permanent home! That said, continued training and consistency will be important as I adjust to a new environment.

Here’s what you should know about me:

I absolutely love people and have been described as a “Velcro dog”—I like to stick close to my humans. I’m very energetic and thrive with daily exercise like walks, hikes, and playtime. I especially love playing ball… even if I don’t always bring it back.

I do well with children and enjoy spending time playing or just relaxing with them. However, because of my size and energy level, I may be better suited in a home with older kids.

I enjoy car rides and am happy either watching the world go by or settling in for a nap.

I haven’t been exposed to cats yet, so my compatibility is unknown.

I’m doing very well on leash and have a good handle on my basic commands. I’ve lived with another dog before and enjoyed it, though I haven’t had much experience meeting unfamiliar dogs.

I do tend to counter surf and chew or ingest things I shouldn’t. For my safety, I’ve been trained to wear a basket muzzle when unsupervised, and I’ll need a family committed to continuing this management and training. A tidy home (especially clean counters!) will help set me up for success.

Because I can be tough on toys, plush toys should be limited until I show better restraint.

I am crate-trained and will need to continue being crated when I’m home alone or unsupervised.

A fenced yard is not required, as long as my exercise needs are consistently met.

I’d love to be included in your daily life—whether that’s outings to dog-friendly restaurants, breweries, or adventures around town.

My future family will participate in a 3-week Paws for Success (PFS) Foster-to-Adopt (FTA) period with support from the training team to ensure a successful transition.

If you’re looking for a loyal, active companion and are committed to continuing my training and structure, I might be your perfect match. I can’t wait to meet you!🐾💛
