2019 GRRA Calendar Contest

UPDATE: We're no longer accepting bids. Stay tuned to read about the winners!

Sorry for the rush, but the goal is to get the calendar to press and out in time for Rescue Romp in October. We have a Graphic Designer and a Marketing Specialist designing our calendar this year, so it should be spectacular! You are bidding on a Calendar month large photo, but we will assign the month based on the photo. In other words, if the dog is playing in the snow, it will likely be a winter month. In the pool wearing sunglasses and it will likely be a summer month. We may have room for a few runners up, so don’t hesitate to bid.

All the profits raised from the calendar will go directly to help our orphaned Golden Retrievers. Your donation is tax deductible.

Rules

  • A Golden Retriever, Doodle, or a Golden Retriever mix needs to be in your shot.
  • No people allowed in the shot.
  • Only high resolution digital shots can be submitted (Smart phone photos – email the “Full Size Render” option) . You can submit more than one photo for consideration.
  • No payment due at this time. You only submit your bid donation. You will be notified if your dog is chosen for the calendar.
  • All forms and photos due by Midnight Friday, September 7.
  • Bid payments are due from winners by Monday, September 17.

Chloe's Fundraising

VOM

VOM

Chloe may be the youngest fundraiser for GRRA. Her lemonade stand brought in over $38! She is in kindergarten, loves gymnastics, playing outside with friends and ART! Her dogs, Charley and Reesie, are her passion. She loves to snuggle with them, give treats to them, and take them for walks. Fourth-grade brother, Ben, feels the same love for Reesie and Charley, considering them a furry brother and sister.

An interview with Chloe

Nancy Baumann: What inspired you to raise money for GRRA?

Chloe Trussell: Because I love my dogs.

NB: How did you decide to have a lemonade stand?

CT: Because it was spring, and it was warm outside, and because I love lemonade.

NB: Who came to the lemonade stand?

CT: My friends came and bought lemonade and my neighbors did too.

NB: Did the customers know you were raising money for a special cause?

CT: Yes, we told them. I also wrote it on my sign.

NB: Is this the first time you raised money for a cause?

CT: No, I had another lemonade stand in the fall and gave the money to GRRA. I also did Jump Rope for Heart at my school and raised money for the American Heart Association.

NB: How old were you when you had the lemonade stand, and did your friends help you?

CT: I was 6, I turn 7 in October. Yes, my friends helped me. They are in kindergarten and first grade and live in my neighborhood.

NB: What do you want to do when you grow up?

CT: I want to work at a dog rescue.

NB: Do you own a Golden Retriever?

CT: Yes, I do. Charley is from GRRA and is two and a half. Reesie is from Adopt a Golden-Birmingham and is a little older than Charley. My parents had another Golden named Sadie but she died before I was born. They also had a bulldog, Ally, but she died when I was three.

Thank you, Chloe, for all your hard work!

Introducing Ranger Ivan

Allow me to introduce Ranger Ivan. Ranger Ivan's Dad made the heart-wrenching decision to find a new home for Ranger when he had to move to Alaska and couldn't take Ranger with him. Ranger has had the good life! His Dad adopted him as a puppy (AKC-- all golden in breed and spirit) and doted on him for the 11 years they were together. Ranger was used to going for long walks and swims with his Dad and learned all the good behavior of a great companion.

Ranger Ivan

In November, Ranger Ivan came to me for fostering. I have a 16 year old goldenish dog, Toby, who would quite prefer to have me to himself during his retirement, but seems satisfied to share his home with rescues now and then. I assumed 11-year old Ranger Ivan would fit in well with the geriatric household. However, Ranger has some sprite left in him! He seems like a puppy to Toby (who is hard to distinguish from a piece of furniture some days).

Ranger is one of those dogs who LOVES people. I mean, he absolutely LOVES them. You know the type-- the pup who wags his tail as soon as someone makes eye contact with him. The type who enthusiastically shoves his nose into someone's lap. The type that looks longingly at people passing by when he's on a walk-- hoping someone will make eye contact so he can wag his tail and shove his nose under their hand.

For the first three weeks I had him, Ranger was getting over an ear infection. That didn't slow him down. We went for two-mile walks in downtown Decatur every day. He wears his Christmas light leash and his "Adopt Me" vest and, proudly, gets lots of attention. When he had surgery to be neutered and have a small, superficial, benign mass removed, we couldn't walk. That was okay with him. He would look at me and ask for a walk, but after a few minutes would settle down for a snooze at my feet. Did I say at my feet? I meant on my feet. He often sits at the base of the couch with his bum resting on the top of my feet.

I'll post more... More about how he does getting baths (great!), sharing his food/toys, getting along with cats, walking on a leash, and his house manners. Please pass this along to anyone you know who may be interested in a companion. Ranger is a true companion and will adore you more than you will adore him. He is a gem. And a very young and healthy 11-year old! Check out www.GRRA.com for more information on how you can adopt Ranger.
