Rudy written by Victoria H.
My name is Rudy, formerly known as Vickers. My parents tell me my name is from a football movie named Rudy. Of course, my family is all boys except my mom. The movie is about how a person's dreams can come true if you try really hard. My family says I look like an Irish setter and a golden, and I am always trying to be good and learn new things to please them. I think my new name is great, and now my dreams have come true just like the movie. Now, I would like to tell you the story of how I met my new family. It was a Sunday in November, 2009. I saw my dad and 2 brothers, and they were staring at me and talking to me. There were several other people around, but I really wanted to play with them more. I did not get to see my new mom that day because I was so popular that there was a line of people waiting to meet me. I admit that I am a good-looking dog, so I can see why so many people were lined up to meet me. My foster mom took me to see a couple of other families, but I was not interested in them. I was waiting on my forever family, the Godas, to adopt me. I finally got to go and meet my new family. I was a little nervous, but when I saw my new mom, dad, and 2 brothers, I felt right at ease. I have been with my new family now going on 3 weeks. I am having the best time in my life. I get to play ball everyday and go on walks with my dad who is teaching me how to walk on a leash the correct way. I have a big soccer ball with 2 ropes on each end that I really love to play with and throw in the air. I love my 2 brothers' smelly socks that they leave on the floor; I carry those around in my mouth. I also like my older brother's sandals; they are my favorite. My foster mom told my family that I love shoes. You would think they would hide them by now. I get to eat snacks and lots of treats. I have a hedgehog that I carry around like a baby, but I keep tearing his legs off. I am on my 3rd hedgehog. I get to sleep in whichever room I choose at night. My family fights over who I am going to sleep with; they love me so much! I have recently discovered my tail and love to chase it around and around. I am not sure how long it has been there, but it is so much fun. My family thinks it is funny to watch. I am so lucky that Golden Retriever Rescue of Atlanta rescued me from the shelter, and I am also thankful to my foster mom for taking care of me until I was adopted. I say a prayer each night for my fellow goldens waiting to be adopted and hope they will find their forever families like I have found the Goda's.
