The Lori Kauffman Volunteer Of The Month Award

Carol Shipley is the recipient of the December 2008 Lori Kauffman Volunteer of the Month Award

Congratulations to Carol Shipley, our December Volunteer of the Month! After retiring from Georgia Power, Carol has been using her background in research and writing to locate sources for grants and prepare proposals for GRRA funding.

Over the past year, Carol has single-handedly built up our fledgling grant-writing function. She has taken the initiative to attend grant-writing classes, educating herself on how to find grants, build relationships with grant providers, and coordinate various GRRA functions (e.g., Treasury, Intake, etc.) to create comprehensive and compelling grant proposals that help distinguish GRRA among other applicants. The platform she has created has also assumed Angel Grant responsibilities, freeing up resouces elsewhere in the organization. Carol's efforts have required a lot of time and hard work, and, just as important, persistence, and we can't thank her enough.

According to Carol, "interacting with a number of dedicated GRRA members to assemble the documentation for these grant applications has been a real pleasure. But as a foster mom, I've found it most rewarding to see some of our frightened, anxious foster dogs settle down to become loving, amusing and very adoptable pets."

Thank you, Carol, for all of your hard work. Your dedication is an inspiration to us all.

Lori Kauffman, who passed away in 2007, was a GRRA™ volunteer who wanted to ensure that GRRA™ continued to do its valuable work. Lori wanted people to know, "Dogs are not disposable. Having a dog is a lifelong commitment. They are an equal part of the family".
