The Lori Kauffman Volunteer Of The Month Award
Elizabeth Laney is the first recipient of the Lori Kauffman Volunteer of the Month Award
Elizabeth, came to GRRA about three years ago when Dixie Golden Retriever Rescue closed. She started as an Adoption Consultant, does home checks, and has done Intake - not much within GRRA that Elizabeth will not do! She has been the Foster Home Coordinator for the past year and works hard to match dogs with foster homes. Fellow volunteers say Elizabeth finds placing dogs in their forever home to be the most rewarding part of rescue. She is hugely instrumental in getting dogs placed following Adoption Days.
Recently, Elizabeth played a major role in helping place Emory's puppies. She personally handled a lot of the Adoption Consultant interviews and pleaded with volunteers to get Home Checks done in record time. Jill McGoff, the foster for Emory and the puppies, described her work as 'phenomenal'. She goes on to say 'Emory and the pups could stay for the duration because my husband could see we were moving things along, and I think that made it much easier for adopters, to be able to come to one place and see all the options and meet the proud mama at the same time.' By 9 weeks, all 10 pups had either moved or were spoken for!
Elizabeth was nominated by several co-volunteers and although she does not like the limelight , she deserves to be recognized publicly for all she has done for GRRA in the past few years! Elizabeth's hard work and dedication is an inspiration to us all. Thank you for all that you do!
Lori Kauffman, who passed away in 2007, was a GRRA™ volunteer who wanted to ensure that GRRA™ continued to do its valuable work. Lori wanted people to know, "Dogs are not disposable. Having a dog is a lifelong commitment. They are an equal part of the family".
If you are aware of a volunteer's efforts that exemplify what is needed to make our volunteer organization survive and thrive, please send a note to volunteer@grra.com. Monthly Nominations are due by the 17th of each month. Click here to see previous award winners.
