What are the advantages of senior Retrievers?
- More settled and need less exercise than a young dog
- Many are well suited for condominiums and townhouses
- Generally better socialized and easier to manage
- Excellent first dogs for young children
- Superior companion animals for anyone who wants a less active dog. (Less active does not mean "boring". It means better behaved and less work for the owner.)

Why select a Retriever?
- people-oriented
- needs to be an integral part of their owner's life. They always want to join you in whatever you are doing.
- thrive on attention and love
- quickly bond to an adoptive family
- large dogs that need exercise. For many , a fenced yard is a requirement.
What are rescued dogs like?
Most of our Retrievers are found in shelters while others are turned in by their owners or found as strays . We do not accept human aggressive dogs into the program.
When we acquire a dog from an owner or shelter, it first receives a wellness visit with one of our supporting vets, and is brought up-to-date on vaccinations. The dog is neutered or spayed and gets a thorough physical exam.
The Retriever is then placed in a foster home to wait for adoption. In the foster home, the retriever is socialized and taught some basic obedience skills. Most importantly we get to know the dog so that we can place it in an appropriate home. (e.g., homes with children, cats, other dogs, etc.)
